The University Counselling Service   

The University Counselling Service has been in operation since 2009 and is a professional, confidential and free counselling service well used by the University community including domestic Chinese students, international students from all over the world, and Chinese and international academic and administrative staff.  Counselling is provided in both English and Mandarin Chinese.  

The University Counselling Service works within the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) ethical framework.  While the service follows the same policies and procedures as the University Counselling Service at the University of Nottingham (UK), these are shaped to fit the local context and Chinese mental health legislation.     

Since the 2017/18 academic year, the Counselling Service has been part of a broader Wellbeing Service which also includes Disability Support and Health Promotion.   

The Purpose of the role is to provide leadership and management to ensure the successful delivery of an excellent professional service for the Wellbeing Service which includes, the University Counselling Service, Disability Support and Health Promotion. The role holder will be responsible for the day to day operation of the service, the provision of a professional counselling service to both staff and students of the University community, and the line management and managerial supervision to all staff and interns working with services that may develop under the Wellbeing heading. In addition, working with senior management, the role holder will contribute to the strategic, budgetary, resource and operation planning, policy development, policy implementation, monitoring, data and quality assurance management.  

Candidates must hold a professional counselling/psychotherapy/counselling psychology qualification at Masters Level or above and have obtained BACP accreditation/UKCP registration, or the equivalent licensure in their own country. Salary will be within the range of RMB 421,889 to RMB 555,548 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.  An attractive package including employment service allowance to support accommodation and flight, private insurance will be provided for international appointments.

The post will initially be offered on a fixed term contract with the University of Nottingham Ningbo China for a period of 5 years starting in February 2022. The contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement, subject to revised terms and conditions.
