Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Exeter has a growing global reputation for excellent teaching and research. It comprises of experts in artificial intelligence, data science, machine learning, computer vision, high performance computing, the future internet, and evolutionary algorithms. More than 94% of our Computer Science research outputs were recognised as internationally excellent in REF 2021.

We are seeking to appoint a new Head of Department who will provide leadership for the Department and develop its strategy in line with University goals and aspirations. The Head of Department will be responsible for the delivery of key departmental KPIs (such as, finance, student numbers, NSS, completion, graduate outcomes, education gain and research and business funding and outputs). They will also promote a sense of collegiality, ambition, inclusion and a vibrant culture, encouraging productivity, promoting interdisciplinarity and ensuring the Department contributes to the delivery of the Faculty’s agreed business plan.

About you

You will be able to demonstrate experience of leading and managing high performing academic teams and an ability to think and plan strategically, articulate priorities and imperatives, and contribute to the delivery of change. The successful applicant will have an outstanding record of innovative research and publications as well as the capacity to lead and inspire colleagues and students. They will display an understanding of the importance of equality and diversity within an organisation and a commitment to helping create an inclusive culture.
