Advanced Zero Emission Analysis Tool (CFCM)

This new full time post is available from 1 April 2024 on a fixed term basis until 31 March 2025. This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.

The Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) to support the project led by Professor Ed Keedwell and Professor Chris. W. Smith at the Centre for Future Clean Mobility (CFCM). The successful candidate will research and develop innovation in clean technologies including working on the design for an Advanced Zero Emission Analysis Tool. Aiming to demonstrate the capabilities of a numerical assessment tool for rapid decision-making support for professionals in the marine industry, including owners, operators, system designers, engineers, etc., by incentivising optimum green fuel alternatives and equipment specification for zero emission operations of vessels, as well as optimisation of vessels' duty cycles and operational profiles for efficient power utilisation. 

As the Graduate Research Assistant, you will be assisting and supporting work on developing new software for the Advanced Zero Emission Analysis Tool. The post will work collaboratively on research and development at CFCM with its industrial partners and academic partners working in clean maritime. As well as working on technical aspects of the projects you’ll be expected to produce reports and presentations to internal and external partners.

The Centre for Future Clean Mobility at University of Exeter, is leading development of clean mobility technology for vehicles and vessels in many sectors, including maritime, rail, off-highway, construction, defence amongst others.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants will be educated to first degree level or have equivalent experience in a related field of study. You should be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes.
