College of Medicine & Health
The above full-time post is available immediately for 3 years in the Exeter Diabetes Research Team based in the College of Medicine and Health.
The post
The College wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant/Postdoctoral Research Associate in Medical Statistics to support the work of Dr Beverley Shields. This Diabetes UK funded post is available immediately. Working as part of the world leading diabetes research team at The Exeter Centre of Excellence for Diabetes Research (EXCEED), the successful candidate will work on a project to analyse data relating to classification of diabetes. The post will build on existing work developing prediction models (e.g. the MODY calculator) that has been translated into a clinical tool to help diagnose rare forms of diabetes that is now used internationally.
The post will include management and analysis of data, statistical analysis, writing up of work for reports and scientific publications, presenting work at conferences and interacting with the lead investigator and wider project team. We are advertising the post at two different grades, with level dependent on qualifications and experience. Training and support will be provided by the team for those with little experience in clinical prediction models.
About you
The successful applicant will be able to analyse data, present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare project reports.
Applicants will be educated to first degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study, or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. For the postdoctoral positions, applicants need a PhD in a relevant discipline. Applicants will have good quantitative skills, knowledge of statistical analysis, and experience of using statistical software (e.g. Stata or R).
Please ensure you read the Job Description and Person Specification for full details of this role.
