Updated: over 1 year ago
Location: Exeter, ENGLAND
Deadline: 14 Jul 2022

College of Medicine and Health

The above full-time (with LTFT option negotiable) post is available for 18 months, 1st August 2022 to 30th January 2024, in the College of Medicine and Health. This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.

The post

We wish to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant orPostdoctoral Research Associate to deliver a project looking at the implications of a frailty diagnosis for older people. The initial work will be two-fold: analysis and interpretation of two data sets (ambulance call outs and primary care data), and a focused literature review and subsequent qualitative interviews with people living with, caring for or working with older people with different degrees of frailty.

You will work with Dr Suzy Hope, a consultant geriatrician at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital. The successful candidate will have experience in cleaning and analysis of clinical data using recognised statistical programmes. You will also be likely to have some qualitative research experience or at least experience of talking to or working with older people (some of whom may also have cognitive impairment), and ability to organise and run focus groups and/or interviews. You will have the ability to liaise professionally with health and social care staff and researchers, and to work independently and creatively in order to develop this important area of work.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants will have some experience of working with data, health-related literature and with people, and either possess a relevant Undergraduate degree/PhD (or be nearing completion), or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of relevant research methods and techniques. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly-motivated health/data/clinical/social researcher to work on a developing research project which is very topical, and with the aim of developing further grant applications with the overall aim to help improve co-ordinated and relevant care for older people.
