The post

The College wishes to recruit a research assistant, working at the interface between material science and additive manufacturing.  The successful candidate will work across a number of projects, supporting the work of Professor Oana Ghita, and through this will develop a good understanding of materials and manufacturing processes. The candidate will support specific tasks of larger industrial projects or well-defined individual mini-projects related with material characterisation and analysis and additive manufacturing. He/she will work as part of a team of postdoctoral research fellows who will provide guidance and training with the potential to be involved in joint publications.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically. There is potential for the role to lead to external publications where good data analysis and writing skills are needed.

Applicants will be educated to degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be able to display knowledge of materials science, material testing techniques and polymer processing methodologies, but just as important is the ability to learn quickly and apply theoretical knowledge in a practical environment.
