This NIHR School for Public Health Research funded part time (0.6 FTE) post is available on a fixed term basis from 10/6/24 (or as soon as possible thereafter) until 31/01/26

The post
The Faculty wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant or Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the work of Dr Abby Russell. The successful applicant will be responsible for recruitment and data collection (focus groups and interviews) with young people for a project exploring support systems for self-harm and suicide that will take place in four sites across the UK. They will also support day-to-day running of other research related to child and adolescent and mental health. The research is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) School for Public Health Research. Flexible working is supported.

The post will include close collaboration with our colleagues at the Universities of Exeter and Bristol, visiting the four research areas, and recruiting and conducting focus groups with 14-21 year olds around the topic of self-harm and suicide. The researcher will be responsible for recruitment and data collection (with the support of other team members), record keeping and data management, qualitative data analysis, literature searches, writing of results and drafting papers for publication. There is a requirement for travel to the four areas of interest (Lincolnshire, the Tees Valley, Somerset and Birmingham) to recruit participants and conduct focus groups. All expenses related to this would be paid.

About you
The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants for the Graduate Research Assistant role will be educated to first degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes.

Applicants for the Postdoctoral Research Associate role will possess a relevant PhD or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes.

Applicants will be able to successfully recruit, collect, organise, handle and analyse data, be a diligent record keeper, have experience researching sensitive topics and understanding of appropriate safeguarding processes around this, build successful relationships, work well with adolescents, and have knowledge and experience of the research process.
