The Role

Newcastle University Business School is recruiting a Graduate Outcomes Manager on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave for approximately 11 months.  This could be available to existing University colleagues as a secondment opportunity and you should discuss this with your current manager before submitting your application. 

The focus of this role is to enhance the School’s graduate outcomes and student experience.  In this role, you will lead a small team to actively develop and deliver effective partnerships with employers and industry to support student learning objectives and enhance the student experience and graduate employability outcomes.

You will be responsible for driving positive graduate outcomes and strengthening relationships with employers.

The main focus will be to develop, coordinate, and assess a variety of student-centred activities during the academic year. This position will also serve as the primary point of contact for employers, providing them with assistance and contributing to the School's education and employability plan.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide management and direction to the graduate outcomes teams. To lead, manage and develop a team of colleagues ensuring that they are deployed efficiently to deliver a customer-orientated service to all colleagues, students and external partners
  • To develop and implement in-curricular and extra-curricular employability activities with regional, national and international employers to maximise the exposure for our students to key employers. This may include initiatives in key international markets
  • Work with academic colleagues to develop and deliver new value-added initiatives within UG and PGT programmes including business projects, guest speakers, treks and other extracurricular events
  • To proactively develop and manage key relationships with senior decision makers in external organisations to source employment opportunities for our global student and alumni body
  • To build networks and work with employers recruitment agencies, networks, professional association bodies and other stakeholders, to raise the profile of Newcastle University Business School and position Newcastle students and alumni as desirable future recruits
  • To research and communicate global recruitment market information and trends to senior management in order to inform decision making particularly with regard to the content of programmes
  • To carry out other duties, as defined by line manager, which support the successful achievement of Business School vision and strategy
  • Be willing and available to travel extensively in the UK and internationally

The Person 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience / Attributes and Behaviour

  • Good understanding of the higher education sector and in particular Business Schools: their opportunities and challenges
  • An in-depth understanding of graduate recruitment and selection processes and the needs of both recruiters and student
  • Strong understanding of both the graduate and experienced hire employment markets
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and influencing skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships
  • Excellent communication, presentation and report-writing skills
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data in order to provide management information
  • Proven ability to use initiative, think strategically and to adopt a creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent project management skills, including time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload for self and others, work under pressure and to meet multiple deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues associated with UK and international networks
  • Willingness and availability to undertake national and international travel

Desirable

  • Line management experience with ability to lead and develop staff 

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent level qualification plus experience in a similar role or significant vocational experience, demonstrating development through progressively more demanding, relevant roles
