Global Lounge Front of House

The Global Lounge is a multifunctional, campus-based hub for our globally - oriented activities, promoting and celebrating multiculturalism, as well as inspiring students to study and work abroad.

The Global Lounge space is very popular with students and staff, and is open all year round, Mon – Fri 9am – 5pm, unless the events are running. The aim of the space is to provide platform for our community to make friends, relax and learn – the activities here promote intercultural exchange and understanding.

The Global Lounge is closed during weekends and university closure days.

This is a fixed-term contract over the summer period from 28/05/2024-30/08/2024.

The post holder will have a very important task to ensure that our space is welcoming, friendly and well looked after on a day-to-day basis. The main duties of the role holder will be covering the following areas

  • Customer service: welcoming quests, answering queries by phone, email and in person
  • Purchasing: managing all purchases, invoicing and deliveries for the team, ensuring sufficient stock levels of all required items
  • Space management: overseeing processes and procedures, maintenance, H&S, cleanliness, well-functioning kitchenette area (tea, coffee, etc for guests), bookings and reservations
  • Supporting the team when additional help is needed (including events, annual leave cover, extra help during busy periods)

The current post holder is going on a career break over the summer months, which will make this fixed-term post an ideal summer job for the right candidate. The Global Lounge team are passionate about the work they do so are looking for like-minded individuals to join the team. The work is varied, stimulating and interesting.  Summer months are quieter than the term time, however the space still welcomes students and staff for bookings and casual use, and runs events for students who are in Bristol during this time.

Flexibility, adaptability, highly developed organisational skills, thinking on your feet and being able to work under pressure in a hectic environment - are key characteristics to thrive in the role.

To succeed in this role, it is crucial to have a good understanding and experience of dealing with people from different nationalities and cultural backgrounds.

Previous experience of working in a customer service role is essential.

Salary: £22,214-£24,248 per annum
