An exciting new post is available to support the expansion of global health research, education and capacity building within the King’s Global Health Institute (KGHI) at King’s College London.
The King’s Global Health Institute (KGHI) is an interdisciplinary centre for research, education and advocacy, the voice for global health at King’s, and the focal point for our large academic community of global health researchers and students. It is hosted in the School of Life Course and Population Sciences
The Global Health Institute Manager will play a critical role in advancing the institute's mission to conduct ground-breaking research in solidarity with partners in underserved settings, and build more accessible education. This position will contribute to the growth and impact of research and education, aimed at bringing about transformative change in improving equity to healthcare globally.
The post holder will form part of the core team of KGHI, with the Director and executive group and will support the delivery of the institute’s strategy, including long-term planning for education, research and partnerships in global health. They will lead the operational activities of the Institute and will devise strategies, with the Director and executive group, to enhance income streams and secure funding for the institute's activities.
This post will also support the King’s College London contribution to the African Mental Health Research Initiative (AMARI). AMARI is a research capacity building programme whose goal is to build excellence in leadership, training, and science amongst African scholars in mental, neurological and substance use research in Africa. AMARI aims to recruit and train 85 fellows at masters (n=18), PhD (n=24), post doc (n=10) and policy intern (n=33) levels, all of whom will be registered at African universities. King’s will be supporting AMARI through trainer of trainers’ courses in research career development, and by providing external PhD supervisors.
This is a hybrid role, requiring at least 2 days in the office per week, and other days working from home. The role will be based at two of KCL’s campuses in London - Guy’s campus and Denmark Hill. Overseas travel may be required once or twice per year.
This post will be offered on an a full-time fixed term contract until June 2026.
This is a - 100% full time equivalent.
Key responsibilities
Strategy Development for Research and Education
Work with the Director and senior leaders in global health at KCL, and our partners, to develop policy for the strategic growth of global health research and education, and to develop policy for enhancing activities and experiences for global health researchers and partners at all career levels.
Strategy Implementation
Manage the implementation of the strategy for KGHI, working alongside the KGHI Director, Research Engagement Lead and key stakeholders at KCL and among our partners. Manage activities to enhance the environment at King’s for global health researchers and partners.
Research and Impact Development
Manage activities aimed at growing the impact of global health research initiatives at KGHI.
Event Coordination and Collaboration:
Lead on proposing and organising internal and external events in global health, such as think tanks, policy labs, and seminars.
Steering Committee Leadership:
Convening the cross-faculty steering committee for KGHI, leading with the Director on agenda setting for these meetings.
AMARI Coordination:
Manage all KCL activities for AMARI, including organising courses and managing the growth of external supervisors for African doctoral and post-doctoral fellows. This involves scheduling, co-ordination of trainers and supervisors, liaison with partner institutions in Africa, production of education materials , travel arrangements, and academic support. You may be asked to assist with teaching.
Culture Promotion and Strategy:
Collaborate with Executive leads to develop a strategy aimed at fostering a vibrant, positive, and inclusive culture within KGHI.
Grant Application Support:
Contribute to the preparation and writing of grant applications to secure funding for KGHI initiatives.
Communication Leadership:
Take the lead in managing internal and external communications for KGHI, writing communications, and working closely with KCL communications staff. Contribute to authorship of publications.
Management of junior staff.
Manage the grade 4 administrator in their roles including organising KGHI meetings, minute taking, and distribution of meeting minutes.
Web and Social Media Management:
Work with Faculty Communications teams to oversee and manage KGHI web pages and Twitter, ensuring content is regularly updated and remains relevant.
Budget Management:
Effectively manage the budget for KGHI, ensuring fiscal responsibility and allocation in line with the institute's goals.
The above list encompasses the primary responsibilities; however, the post holder is expected to undertake additional tasks and responsibilities within the scope and grading of the post as needed.

The School of Life Course & Population Sciences is one of five Schools that make up the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at King’s College London. The School unites experts across 5 departments, Women and Children’s health, Nutritional Sciences, Population Health, Ophthalmology and Twins & Genetic Epidemiology, overall covering the complexities of life course health & disease from individual cells molecular genetics to whole population level. Our research links the causes of common health problems to life’s landmark stages, treating life, disease and healthcare as a continuum. We are interdisciplinary by nature and hugely successful: 91 per cent of our research submitted to the Subjects Allied to Medicine (Pharmacy, Nutritional Sciences and Women's Health cluster) for REF was rated as world-leading or internationally excellent. We use this expertise to teach the next generation of health professionals and research scientists. Based across King’s Guy’s, St Thomas’, Waterloo and Denmark Hill campuses, our academic programme of research, teaching and clinical practice is embedded across all SLCPS departments.
