We are experts in implementing natural capital approaches such as natural capital and ecosystem services assessment, including modelling, mapping and monetary valuation, natural capital accounting, opportunity mapping and stakeholder engagement. We work extensively in strategic policy planning and development management, with the agricultural and land management sector, and also with the water sector and the wildlife conservation community.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with high-level GIS, coding and web mapping skills; and who is capable and confident in applying these technical skills to a wide range of consultancy projects. Everyday work will involve performing GIS analysis and general mapping work. But you will also need to be able to develop online mapping portals, storymaps, and user-friendly GIS tools for querying mapping data.

We operate a virtual office (and this will continue after Covid restrictions are lifted), so require someone happy with this mode of working, with self-motivation and willing to get on with the task in hand under limited supervision. You will also be required to attend occasional team meetings in Sheffield or Leicester and potentially meetings with clients. You will need to be numerate and analytical, with the ability to quickly grasp new concepts and willing to take on a wide variety of tasks.

Essential skills include:

  • A postgraduate degree in GIS, Geomatics or similar and a minimum of 2 years related work experience;
  • Advanced knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS and QGIS;
  • Ability to create geospatial software applications using Arcpy/Python, SQL, Javascript, HTML and/or R/Shiny;
  • Experience of creating web mapping solutions using ESRI and/or Open Source technology;
  • Database management skills and experience – ideally with SQL Server, PostgreSQL/PostGIS or MS Access;
  • Interest and experience in the environment sector;
  • Self-motivated and willing to work from home;
  • Strong organisational skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (in English).

Desirable skills include:

  • Knowledge of remote sensing data, including processing techniques and open-source datasets;
  • Skills in spatial analysis and coding in R;
  • Knowledge of natural capital and ecosystem services approaches;
  • Experience of working in an environmental consultancy.

All candidates selected for interview will be asked to present examples of their previous technical work.

Benefits include flexible working arrangements, 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), an Employee Assistance Programme, and the opportunity to work in a friendly consultancy that is leading the way in this exciting and rapidly growing field.

This is a full-time position, but we are happy to consider part-time and flexible arrangements. It is open to anyone resident and with the right to work in the UK.

We are an equal opportunity employer that recognises the value of a diverse workforce.
