The University of Exeter’s College of Medicine and Health have an opportunity for a new Communications Assistant to support their communications team with content for social media channels, compiling newsletters, communicating research output, and supporting and promoting events. This opportunity will provide the successful applicant with invaluable experience across communications, media relations, marketing and engagement. This role is part of the Graduate Business Partnership scheme, is from December 2021 until July 2022 and will be a mix of remote working and working on the Streatham campus in Exeter.

The main purpose of this role is to improve student communications within CMH. The intern will support the existing communications team and the CMH education team in amplifying student voice, acting on feedback, and closing the loop by communicating change throughout the student body. The role will also incorporate celebrating student successes and supporting opportunities for student engagement. The role sits within the CMH communications team, and will cross over other communications activities, including generating content for social media channels and managing those channels, compiling newsletters, communicating research output, and supporting and promoting events.

Duties and responsibilities include working with the education team to ensure student voice is heard and acted upon on college community building and other activities, communicating with students about changes made as a result of their feedback, and Celebrating students (e.g. academic and non-academic success stories / fundraising / papers published / sporting achievements etc) through social media, media, website, and internal networks. The appointee will create and promote imagery and videos of inspiring student stories, work with the education team and student bodies to create and promote community-building events, and also support admissions and marketing activity aimed at prospective students (e.g. promoting open days / generating high-quality assets for recruitment).

Applicants should have outstanding written and oral communication skills, an understanding of social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram), strong organisational skills and good visual skills. Applicants should be confident at communicating and be able to interact appropriately with staff, students and external partner at all levels, be a self-starter and be able to generate ideas and work autonomously, be a keen learner and able to act on constructive feedback, be organised and able to manager a busy workload and also be a strong team player. The use of social media for personal use, making and editing film, good photography skills, experience of organising events and experience of writing for or communicating with different audiences are is desirable though not essential.
