The Position:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated person to join a multidisciplinary research team to deliver the CHANGE project. As a Game Designer, you will help shape the visual aesthetics and functionality of our game/simulation. More specifically, to provide specialised skills in developing a 'proof of principle' prototype in the form of an open-source/free-to-access game/simulation of typical homes that would allow players (the public) to experience and quickly learn how to reduce their heating bills while also lowering carbon emissions. Your primary responsibility will be to develop a novel game that is consistent with the project's goal of changing people's behaviour. You will be involved in all stages of game development, creating characters, environments, assets, and levels that set the tone and style for the game/simulation.
This position requires a strong understanding of design principles, a passion for art and games, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You will apply your design skills to the cutting edge of behaviour change, creating a competitive game. Responsibilities:
- Defining and prototyping gameplay mechanics to ensure balance and accessibility.
- Develop and implement engaging game progression.
- Designing challenges and balancing difficulty levels.
- Generating innovative game concepts and implementing engaging gameplay systems.
- Collaborating with colleagues to optimise the player interface.
- Using game metrics and testing to improve gameplay.
- Effective communication of design concepts and requirements with the project team and stakeholders.
About you!
- Bachelor's degree in Game Design, Computer Science, or relevant work experience. Recent graduates can be considered.
- Demonstrable experience as a game designer, specifically in game development.
- A solid understanding of Unity Game Engine.
- Expertise in scripting and technical knowledge.
- Good strong communication skills and can effectively engage with project team and stakeholders.
- Passionate about gaming.
