Job Purpose

This is a project assistant role for an online, video based learning platform delivered by the NERC funded geoscience analytical facilities based at SUERC, the British Geological Survey, the University of Bristol and the University of Oxford. You will be working with these laboratories in providing comprehensive video training on all aspects of sample collection, preparation and analysis.

You will have a strong interest in science, and science communication, particularly within the earth sciences and geochronology. The GAEA platform currently focuses on skills development and CPD for earth scientists, but this remit is expanding, and will include some public outreach and engagement.

This role will support the project lead by assisting with all aspects of video creation, including audio-visual capture, resource creation, including illustration and animation, database management and communication with the extended GAEA team and external stakeholders.

Part of this role will be to contribute to the administrative management of this project in terms of website maintenance and uploading course materials, and tracking contributions from the teams involved to ensure timely delivery.

You will work collaboratively with subject specialists to plan videos, develop paper edits and supply content to the videographer for editing. You will assist with website content and management, and manage customer queries received through the website.

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

1.  Deliver a range of administrative and photographic support to the GAEA project outcomes, including videography, scripting and managing the document database.

2.  Prepare documents, presentations and other materials to a clear brief, using established formats and standard software packages to support GAEA development.

3.  Maintain project plans and budget tracking and supporting documentation and permissions from stakeholders.

4.  Prepare figures, animations and images within the Adobe software packages for final video outputs.

5.  Prepare and manage communications and engagements with a range of stakeholders throughout NEIF and the wider GAEA project team including the evaluation team, and videographer.

6.  Set short term priorities or work schedules to manage the GAEA deliverables to ensure operational efficiency.

7.  Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team/group meetings/seminars/workshops across NEIF, the University and wider community [e.g. Academic and Industrial Partners].

8.  Resolve issues, applying sound judgement based on experience, largely without reference to others to provide an effective service and clear advice to colleagues contributing to the GAEA project.

9.  Creation and collation of knowledge base for future AI applications.

10. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the team.

11. Engage in reasonable professional development activities as appropriate.

12. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s strategic plan.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Either: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role.

Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 5 or 6 [National 6 or 7, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4 or 5] or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role

A2  Detailed knowledge of relevant systems, video production and illustration including software packages

Skills 

Essential:

C1 Ability to undertake assigned tasks in a timely manner and to an acceptable standard

C2 Initiative and judgement to plan or schedule work days and weeks ahead, and to respond to changing requirements and resolve problems independently

C3 Ability to communicate clearly, clarifying requirements, responding to colleagues and customers

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 4, £22,681 - £25,138 per annum.

This post is full time (35 hours per week), and has funding for up to 3 years in the first instance.
