About Department/Research Project

A current growth area in the field of Li ion batteries is the development of improved high charge and discharge power Li-ion cells, driven from the commercial side by a range of market needs.  Current commercial technology in the high power area is based on lithium titanate (LTO), which adopts the spinel structure. This project is joint between the University of Birmingham and Loughborough University (training in computer modelling will be based at Loughborough University), and is aimed at performing computer modelling studies of LTO in order to aid future recycling strategies.

Purpose of the Role

To computationally model Lithium Titanate spinel

Shift Pattern

Normal working hours 9-5

Main Duties

  • To perform computer modelling work on Lithium titanate spinel

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

  • You must be a registered full-time chemistry or materials science undergraduate student (the internship must be within the years of your undergraduate study (i.e., not in final year or during a subsequent Masters’ programme), and you must not have been a FUSE intern in a previous year)

  • Have an interest in performing computer modelling work
