Functions Supervisor (Straight Shifts)

Trinity College is the largest and one of the most renowned of the Colleges of Cambridge University, with approximately 1,070 students and 190 Fellows who are supported by over 350 staff. The Catering Department provides the food and drink service for the senior and junior members of the College and for staff together with College and special functions. The Department consists of approximately 80 staff which includes Kitchen, Hall, High Table, Bar and Office staff.

We wish to appoint a Functions Supervisor who will support the smooth running of the Functions and Private Dining rooms for formal means, buffets, meetings or light refreshments. The role will involve setting up hall or the room, moving furniture, serving of food and drink and clearing down at the end of the meal. In addition the role holder will be expected to organise and supervise Functions staff members, including permanent staff and casuals as well as assisting in other areas of the department.

Applicants must have experience of waiting in a College or hotel environment, the ability and confidence to ‘run’ small events in a similar, fast paced environment with minimal supervision and a good working knowledge of health, safety and hygiene.   Some supervisory experience would be preferable. In addition, applicants should be well presented, must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, an eye for high standards and a “can do” attitude to work.

This is a permanent full-time role (typically 37.5 hours per week on a shift rota which includes evenings and weekends) with a salary of £27,645 per annum plus a shift allowance of £3,317 (total £30,962) plus a generous benefits package which includes:
