The Unified Administrative Services (UAS) provides core administrative services to the University. The scope of the work carried out by UAS teams and sections is wide-ranging and essential to the smooth running of the University. The UAS is a body under the supervision of the University Council and is led by the Registrary as the University's Principal Administrative Officer.

The role supports the UAS Finance Business Partner team in a backfill capacity whilst certain members of the team are involved in Enhanced Financial Transparency (EFT) project, adding a crucial layer of financial expertise enabling effective coordination of financial policies, procedures, and management across the UAS Departments and supporting them in strategic and operational financial matters.

The role will need to develop and actively participate in a network of departmental accounts staff to facilitate the development of sound financial process and procedures. This will include acting as a financial expert intermediary between the UAS Departments and the central Finance Division, providing accurate and timely financial advice and management.

The Role

  • Support the UAS Business Partner team in carrying out their responsibilities.
  • Be the UAS contact for departmental finance staff, pro-actively encouraging interactions between finance contacts/leads across all departments in the UAS, share and promote best practice, develop consistent planning tools and training staff as required.
  • Provide account management support i.e. monthly reports, analyse the data and variances.
  • Monitor and review the accounts, review income and expenditure against targets.
  • Implement and ensure that the local procedures comply with the University's financial procedures.
  • Act as a financial expert intermediary between the departments and the central Finance Division.

Your Skills

  • You will be a full or part-qualified accountant or working towards a recognised professional accounting qualification.
  • Have several years' experience of working in a financial environment, probably within Higher Education or another complex organisation.
  • Have strong influencing and analytical skills and be able to demonstrate excellent communication using tact and diplomacy.
  • Have the ability to work independently and proactively.

Location

The University is supportive of hybrid working, where some work is undertaken on University premises and some in a remote working environment. The aim of our approach is to enable as many staff as possible to work in a hybrid way if they wish and where their role allows. This arrangement is subject to change and will not form a part of the contractual terms of the role.

Fixed term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years.
