About us
We are the Examinations Team. We manage the organisation and operation of over 2,600 invigilated examinations annually for more then 100,000 candidatures, including those delivered overseas and online, and for all King’s College London students.
We are responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive service that is fit for purpose and evolves constantly to meet the needs of our students. This includes devising and implementing all associated business processes to ensure they are responsive and proactive, and driving a culture of service management and improvement that centres our students at the heart of the service.
About the role
We are recruiting for a flexible and proactive Examinations Manager (Operations) who will be responsible for overseeing the planning and operational elements of the university’s online in-person examinations service. The role holder will line manage the operational team to ensure the successful delivery of digital examinations. In addition, the role holder will assist with the appointment, training and management of all university invigilators.

This post will be offered on a two-year fixed-term contract.
This post is offered as a full-time post but we are happy to talk about part-time, job-share and other flexible working options. There are essential periods of high intensity associated with protected examination periods (usually January, May and August) throughout the academic year.
Key responsibilities
To manage the work of the Examinations Team, currently consisting of 4 Assessments Officers, in the delivery of effective customer-focused services by:
Service Delivery
- Overseeing the logistical and operational processes undertaken by the examinations team in order to prepare and deliver our in-person examinations, both in a paper and computer-based format.
- Managing the on-site operations of the computer-based assessment.
- Overseeing the production and publication the examination timetables and seating information, in unison with Examinations Manager (Operations)
- Liaising with senior managers and providing support to faculties and institutes regarding online in-person examinations delivery and associated practices.
- Resolving issues that may require unusual or non-standard solutions in collaboration with colleagues across our central teams and faculties
- Developing strong working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and ensuring that the service is well represented in appropriate forums.
- To deputise for the Head of Service and support other management colleagues across Examinations, as required.
Service Improvement
- Developing operational processes that ensure the ongoing delivery of examinations services that are cost-efficient, student centred and fit for purpose.
- Researching best practice across the sector and using a data driven approach to support decisions around process change.
- Implementing agreed policy, procedure and system changes, monitoring, reviewing and evaluating against agreed measures.
Governance
- Ensuring regulations, policy and codes of practice relating to examinations are adhered to, and are communicated to staff and students clearly and as appropriate
- Recruiting, training and managing a pool of invigilators for college-wide assessment purposes– approximately 80.
- Providing statistical and business analysis data for business planning purposes and for external submissions to governing bodies as required •Being responsible for quality assurance of the examinations process including ensuring the quality of examination papers in liaison with departments, standards of invigilation, venue suitability and event management
