If so, you could be a great candidate for a Security Officer at the University of Kent, predominantly based at our Canterbury Campus.
Previous experience in a similar role would be beneficial, however, it is not essential as full training will be provided. We are keen to hear from you if you are enthusiastic and motivated to be part of a committed security team in providing excellent customer service to a diverse group of people.
We currently have 3 Full time Security Officer roles. One of which will work late shifts only during term time.
As a Security Officer you will be required to work both day and night shifts on a rota basis, so flexibility is needed.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Good standard of literacy and numeracy
- Excellent oral communication skills and good listening skills (including the ability to clearly relay information in person and via a radio communication system)
- Excellent written communication skills to effectively provide clear incident reports and complete relevant management documentation
- Demonstrable skills in observation and the ability to appraise situations quickly and effectively

The Department

The Security Team maintain a safe environment by preventing crime, responding promptly to emergencies and difficult situations in line with security procedures. This role is offered by the Commercial Services and Estates Department. The Department provides a number of essential services to the University of Kent and is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the extensive grounds and buildings; the security of students, staff and visitors; transport and travel; a postal service and the University Design & Print Centre. It is also responsible for the buildings, new development and construction projects both at Canterbury and at our Medway campus at Chatham Maritime and on the Chatham Historic Dock Yard.
