Deadline: 03 Sep 2021

We seek a part-time Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager (EDI) to initiate, lead and manage a wide portfolio of projects relating to equality and diversity. The role requires a high degree of initiative and independent working, including leading on projects from conception through to final implementation.

This is an exciting opportunity to take the lead in designing and implementing initiatives which will contribute to the achievement of the School’s Athena Swan targets and broader equality and diversity goals. The School recently applied for a Silver Athena Swan award, and the EDI Manager will be responsible for co-ordinating the implementation of our ambitious and wide-ranging action plan. Key elements of the role include monitoring progress made by the School in advancing diversity and inclusion, by analysing data from disparate sources and reporting on progress to the School’s EDI Committee; and providing specialist advice and support on equality and diversity matters to other members of the School. You will co-ordinate the meetings of the School’s EDI Committee, including preparing agendas, distribution of papers, minute-taking and making recommendations. You will also act as SoGE’s Disability Co-ordinator.

You will have a degree or equivalent professional experience. You will have experience of working in the field of equality and diversity, and up-to-date knowledge and understanding of policies and good practice in this area. Proven project management skills, including the ability to work independently in a complex environment, taking initiative when necessary and prioritising work effectively to meet deadlines are essential. You will have the ability to understand, manipulate, analyse and visualize data – both quantitative and qualitative – and ability to compile and manage online surveys. Strong skills in addressing sensitive issues with tact and confidentiality is a must.

The School of Geography and the Environment holds an Athena Swan Bronze award in recognition of our commitment and success in addressing gender equality.

The appointment will be available part-time (18.75 hours) until 7 November 2022 and may be offered on a secondment basis.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your application.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Friday 27 August 2021, and interviews will be held on Tuesday 21 September 2021.
