You will join a dedicated team who strive to continuously inspire our students and wider University community – and, through modern teaching and impactful research, continue to deliver innovative solutions to some of the world’s biggest challenges.

UWS has been growing its Staff and Student Innovation since 2018 when we launched our first high growth spin out company (Novosound Ltd). The driver behind this work is both research impact (spin outs) and student success (startups and skill sets). This role, reporting to the Head of Business Innovation, will lead a team to significantly grow participation in our extra-curricular enterprise programmes and ensure that we meet our ambitious targets for the number of start ups and spin outs launched from the University. They will do this by providing entrepreneurship support across the University and deliver internally and externally funded entrepreneurial programmes to develop and promote an entrepreneurial culture and support stakeholders to develop enterprise opportunities and to facilitate the successful delivery of the University’s entrepreneurial strategies, targets and activity.

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • Qualification in a business related discipline.
  • Recognised and established track record of Intellectual Property management and exploitation
  • Experience of supporting each stage of the business-creation process in an industry and academic environment.
  • 5+ years’ proven track record, working within business advice in an enterprise context
  • Appropriate evidence of impact-driven enterprise skills development activity
  • Highly developed communication and negotiation skills, both written and oral. A confident and outgoing self starter, who can communicate vision that can be shared and delivered by colleagues.
  • Commitment to delivering high quality enterprise programmes and outstanding staff and student experience.
  • Extensive skills in social media platforms, MS 365, Power BI, and experience and competency in the use of large language models e.g. ChatGPT
