Enterprise and entrepreneurship is a critical element of the University’s long-term strategy for creating a culture of opportunity for both undergraduates and graduates. In 2016 the University agreed a new vision and arising out of this a single strategic priority was agreed – the creation and development of Industry Collaboration Zones (ICZs). The ICZ programme acts as a focus for collaboration across the University with industry partners and one of the strands of deliverables is “Salford as an Entrepreneurial University.”

The University has a robust information and advice offer for our aspiring student and graduate entrepreneurs and we also have a business incubation facility on campus. The Careers & Enterprise team in Student Experience and Support, is a vital partner in delivering these activities and the team currently offer a portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate enterprise development modules. This offer to students is complemented by the extra-curricular provision, aimed at engaging additional students and targeting graduates, particularly those who are unemployed and “underemployed”. Initiatives include the Enterprise Masterclasses and Business Bootcamps, which, with a strong emphasis on employability provide year-round training to undergraduates and graduates through business specific workshops.

Student Experience and Support is part of the wider Directorate of Student and Academic Support (DSAS) which aims to provide agile and adaptive services to support the enhancement of student experience and performance throughout the student journey and staff experience across the academic cycle. DSAS unites The Library; Student Administration; Student Experience and Support; the Quality and Enhancement Office; and School Operations as one team.
