This is a fully funded Engineering Doctorate (EngD) scholarship in the field of novel materials and printable electronics for sensors, printed electronic displays, semiconducting industry and packaging. The project is particularly suitable for those with any engineering and physical science background. 

The project will be in collaboration with A-Gas Electronic Materials, part of A-Gas International, a leading international company;  A-Gas Electronic Materials builds over 25 years of service and is a leading specialist chemicals and processes supplier for the Semiconductor Industry, Printed Circuit Board, Electronic/Industrial Metal Finishing, Photovoltaic and Advanced Packaging Technologies.

The project will involve a research programme investigating the development of novel materials for adhesion, planarization, bonding/encapsulation and dielectric properties and their deposition. Example of applications of novel materials include substrate planarization prior to stack building for the creation of a range of devices such as sensor systems and printed electronic displays; as well as adhesion layers to account for the incompatibility of adjacent stack structure layers.

The project will involve a combination of experimental and pilot line studies with development of evaluation models of material key performance characteristics. The establishment of the model / criteria will be accompanied by laboratory-based formulation experimentation, deposition work and analysis for validation of the developed formulations and the model. 

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with A-Gas personnel / industrial supervisor to deliver the project aims above.
