Role Overview: As a Hydrogen Technology Engineer you will have ownership of a project transforming new concepts into prototypes, and developing these concepts into market solutions. You will work with scientists and engineers in the University, as well as developing relationships with potential funders, industrial partners, and customers.
What You’ll Do:
- Innovative Design: Conceptualise and design mechanical and thermo-fluid systems that implement novel methods for cooling hydrogen to cryogenic temperatures.
- Prototyping and Testing: Take concepts from theory to practice by building and testing prototypes, refining designs based on real-world performance.
- Market discovery: Analyse technical and economic performance of proposed systems across diverse applications, including in aerospace and maritime sectors, identifying leading market solutions.
- Commercialisation: Work dynamically to prepare technology for licensing or spin-out, working within resource and time constraints.
- Documentation: Provide clear documentation of design work and technical and economic performance analyses.
Qualifications:
- Batchelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
- Proven experience of design, build and test of mechanical systems involving fluid flow, with a strong portfolio showcasing your ability to bring ideas to life.
- Proficiency in CAD software and its use for design of mechanical and flow devices.
- Strong analytical skills, especially for fluid and thermodynamic systems, and proficiency in at least one programming language (preferably Python).
- Preferably, demonstrated ability to identify market opportunities and bring products to market.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
