About the role

This role is for current 2nd year undergraduate University of Derby Students Only

Join the Careers and Employment Service (CES) on your student placement. This role includes working closely with the Derby Talent Team to engage with employers, promote opportunities, support employability events and any associated marketing. 

The interview date for this role will be from 23/4/24.

Principal accountabilities
  • Take responsibility for approving, listing and promoting a wide range of relevant and current student and graduate opportunities in line with current employment law and University of Derby Careers and Employment Service policy
  • Attend employer meetings, networking opportunities and events with a Talent Development Officer (physical and virtual) to promote the wider employer offer and identify potential leads for future relationships and the Student Employment Agency.
  • Manage and develop existing social media channels and campaigns for the team, interacting with employers and to increase engagement and assisting the Marketing and Communications placement where required. Update Employer Engagement social media strategy for 24/25 to include X and LinkedIn and explore alternative platforms and campaigns.
  • Contribute to the content and design of student and employer facing marketing materials, ensuring messages are suitable and timely for the audience they are intended for.
  • Research and develop a depth of knowledge of the graduate labour market to disseminate to colleagues and use this information to alert the team of upcoming opportunities for the team and CES users.
  • Support the planning and delivery of a comprehensive portfolio of events including careers fairs and college specific events offering a student perspective to advise the team on promotion of these events and opportunities. Create fair resources including Employer guides. Work with the Data and Reporting placement to capture, collate and evaluate event attendance and feedback.
  • Take a lead on the collation of student and employer feedback and case studies and transforming these into copy, visual and video content for use in promoting CES and our activities through social media, our website, external pages and intranet to our employers, students, graduates and the wider university.
  • Support the operation of the CES Hubs (Kedleston Road and Markeaton Street) promoting the CES service offer, welcoming students, offering first point of contact support and signposting, as well as live chat support.

    Qualifications
    • University of Derby second year undergraduate student

    Experience
    • Administration experience including data input onto databases and spreadsheets
    • Experience in telephone, reception or customer services work

    Skills, knowledge and abilities
    • Strong communication and listening skills, especially over the phone, in online meetings and in written communications to engage different audiences
    • Ability to use social media effectively to promote the service and engage employers across a range of platforms
    • Ability to network effectively and work across teams
    • Sound organisation skills with a methodical approach to workload
    • Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workloads
    • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
    • Professional approach and keen to develop
    • Proactive, committed and reliable

    Business requirements
    • Able to offer a flexible approach to working i.e. work evenings and weekends when required
    • Willingness and flexibility to travel and work between University and external sites in a cost effective and timely manner
