Location: Glasgow, SCOTLAND
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 08 Apr 2024

Full time (35 hours per week) and open ended (permanent)

The University of Glasgow has been changing the world for more than 570 years, and today we are delighted to rank in the top 100 of universities worldwide in both the Times Higher Education and QS World University Rankings.

Our people have always been at the forefront of innovation, and our past achievements inspire our current world changers.

A fantastic new opportunity has arisen for an Employee Relations Partner to join the University’s People and Organisational Development (P&OD) department.

About the role

Reporting to the Interim Head of Policy & Employee Relations and working collaboratively within the Employee Relations - Case Management Hub, in this role you will be part of a team providing effective, consistent, proactive management of ER casework including giving expert HR advice on formal cases, supporting and coaching managers as well as supporting other projects or initiatives that enhance the P&OD employee relations offering.

Key strategic themes in the P&OD 2020-2025 strategy are centred on providing an excellent employee experience for our workforce and cultivating a values-led culture, and the work that you will be doing will contribute to this. This will include:

  • Managing a portfolio of employee relations cases, and providing expert HR advice and guidance on these, with a focus on resolution in line with the University Values, policy framework, and relevant service level agreements.
  • Providing support and coaching to managers and senior leaders, as well as providing support to other projects and initiatives that enhance the P&OD employee relations offering, such as the development of policies, templates, and toolkits.
  • Role modelling our University Values and contributing to a positive and constructive employee relations environment.
  • Working closely alongside other P&OD colleagues to continuously improve the case management service and to strengthen management and leadership capability in regard to the resolution of individual employee relations matters.

About you

With well-developed knowledge of employee relations best practice and current employment legislation in the UK, you will have a proven track record of working in HR at a professional level, gained within a large and complex organisation, demonstrating your ability to successfully handle an HR case work portfolio (including discipline and grievance investigations, hearings and appeals, as well as attendance and performance management processes) to their conclusion.

Day to day you will be interacting with a broad range of colleagues seeking guidance on behaviours and actions, therefore the ability to successfully adopt a consultancy style is essential, demonstrating proven influencing, judgement, analytical and problem-solving abilities. You will be confident, credible and resilient, with the ability to work both independently but also to contribute as a team-player.

This post is full time (35 hours per week, Monday- Friday) and open-ended (permanent). Relocation assistance will be provided where appropriate.

Informal enquiries should be directed via email to Chris Branney (Interim Head of Policy & Employee Relations) [email protected]
