Power Networks Demonstration Centre (PNDC) based at Cumbernauld and a new facility to be opened at Inchinnan in Paisley, both are part of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) within The University of Strathclyde. PNDC/Inchinnan are undertaking the delivery of a multi-million pound capital plan which is designed to further expand the EEEs, testing and equipment development capability. The post holder will be expected to undertake work at either or both sites as and when required.
We are looking to recruit an Electrical Engineer to provide technical expertise in the professional electrical engineering arena and put those skills to practical use in order to deliver testing regimes in a safe and cost-effective manner. Assist in leading strategic, operational, and maintenance activities for all electrical infrastructure, plant & equipment. To implement policy and procedures relevant to the safe operation & maintenance of the HV, LV, communications and Scada systems. This post will involve design, planning and implementation of all testing regimes at PNDC. The role includes cost planning and budget control for minor and major projects as well as reporting on the management of risk. The post has responsibility to ensure a safe environment is provided and maintained within all work aspects at PNDC. The post holder will be required to investigate and resolve electrical issues. The job may also involve some mechanical works.
Reporting to the Senior Electrical Engineer within PNDC, you will be responsible for assisting in the management of electrical systems within a test environment. You will advise on electrical maintenance, project management and will develop mechanical & electrical solutions for testing regimes You will be responsible for switching and configuring HV and LV networks, configuring RTUs and Scada Systems as well as carrying out surveys and inspections, preparing tender documents and cost estimates, issuing tenders and managing the delivery of a wide range of diverse projects.
To be considered for this role, you will be educated to a minimum of HNC / HND level in an electrical/electronic discipline, or equivalent, or have significant relevant experience such as an electrical trade. You will have a good knowledge of HV and LV systems, protection, and communications systems, planned maintenance, electrical services and current health and safety legislation. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders, including colleagues and external industrial/international organisations. You will work in a dynamic environment, with changing priorities and collaborators, and so effective teamwork is essential. The post will be based at the PNDC facility in Cumbernauld.
The postholder will work towards HV authorisation (Authorised Person).
