Egyptology Departmental Lecturer

The Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies aims to appoint a Departmental Lecturer (DL) in Egyptology, for 12 months to cover the teaching and certain other duties of a permanent post-holder during a period of research leave.  (You must be able to start by 1st September 2024.)

This position is a great opportunity for a highly promising scholar to develop their career through  research, teaching and collaborative work in Egyptology at Oxford.  The successful candidate will play an active and valued role in teaching the Faculty’s undergraduate and graduate courses in the area, particularly in the field of Middle Egyptian texts.

You will have completed, or be very close to completing a doctorate in Egyptology, and possess a solid breadth and depth of knowledge of the major phases of Egyptian language.  Your knowledge of Middle Egyptian texts and the hieratic script will be sufficient to teach, develop course materials and undertake relevant research.  You must have an aptitude for academic administration, and a commitment to communicating and publishing research in your field of study.  Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills are also essential.

This position is based in central Oxford. This is a full-time, fixed-term position until 30 August 2025.
