Context

The University of Wolverhampton ECMS’s role is to enhance productivity predominantly in the UK’s high-value manufacturing sector by working with industry. ECMS Training centres are based in Wolverhampton Springfield Campus, Telford Campus and Tipton the National Foundry Training Centre (the only Foundry Apprenticeship training in the UK). ECMS was conceived to drive economic growth through the upskilling of current and future workforces, at the same time, helping to close the skills gap predominantly in the manufacturing sector and the ECMS can also support other industries and sectors.  Currently, ECMS offers a Foundry training programme at the National Foundry Training Centre in addition to offering bite-size courses to a variety of industries and also provide Business Assist support. The role of the knowledge exchange trainer (KET) for the Elite Centre for Manufacturing Skills (ECMS) is instrumental in driving the growth, sustainability, and impact of this training facility. This role involves a multifaceted set of responsibilities and tasks aimed at delivering ECMS’s raining and CPD outputs, expanding reach, increasing revenue, fostering collaborations, and enhancing its position as a leading institution in the field of manufacturing skills development..

Purpose

In the role of knowledge exchange trainer (KET), you will play a vital part in ensuring the all the training aspects of ECMS. You will be a key member of the ECMS team, tasked with responsibilities that bear a direct influence on skills development, operational efficiency, and the overall performance. Your primary duty involves the development and delivery of training courses that related to manufacturing, computed aided design, numerical modelling, material characterisation, casting and additive manufacturing. Your role is to deliver industrial training and enable project outcomes in a timely fashion. Depending on the specific project task, you may also be involved in offering training on laboratory equipment where you will be responsible for the adherence to and enforcement of rigorous safety protocols. Your role necessitates close cooperation with fellow team members, supervisors, and other departments to achieve project goals, address operational challenges, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and conduct training programs for industrial partners in the field of manufacturing, product design, computer aided design and a variety of related subjects.
  • Ensure training content aligns with industry standards and is up-to-date.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry, government agencies, educational institutions, and professional organizations to understand industry needs and foster collaborations.
  • Provide practical, hands-on training to learners on manufacturing, characterisation, and related processes.
  • Deliver training services, consultancy projects, and other revenue-generating activities.
  • Teach learners to operate machinery, instrumentation, and other relevant equipment.
  • Assess trainees' skill levels and individual learning needs.
  • Develop and execute marketing and promotional strategies to enhance ECMS's visibility, attract learners, businesses, and partners, and promote its brand.
  • Tailor training methods to address the specific skill gaps and learning styles of trainees.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in manufacturing and characterisation techniques.
  • Incorporate cutting-edge knowledge into training materials and instruction.
  • Effectively communicate ECMS's mission, progress, and impact to various stakeholders, including learners, businesses, educational institutions, and the broader community.
  • Contribute to skills development by imparting knowledge and expertise to students, ensuring they acquire the necessary manufacturing skills.
  • Provide technical support to students, staff, and other stakeholders, helping them troubleshoot and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Work closely with colleagues, supervisors, and cross-functional teams to achieve training objectives.
  • Collaborate on continuous improvement initiatives, share best practices, and address operational challenges.
