The Language Centre is situated in the Directorate of External Relations. The main functions of the Language Centre are to support the university’s internationalisation strategy and to contribute to its commitment to inclusivity. We run year-round Pre-sessional English Programmes as well as in-sessional courses which support international students during their studies.

We have ambitious plans to develop the work that we do to ensure that we meet the needs of our stakeholders. We are working with colleagues across the institution to design bespoke forms of support. We are also seeking to work in partnership with our international students to gain insights into the challenges that they face and the types of support that they would value.

The successful candidate will join the Language Centre at an exciting time of change. We are taking what we have learnt during the pandemic to design courses that are blended, interactive and multimodal. We are also working towards accreditation and as part of this process will support individuals to gain BALEAP fellowship.

The main focus of this role is to teach on our pre-sessional/in-sessional English programmes both online and face to face.  Therefore, the focus is  to deliver classes in accordance with syllabi and course specifications, mark assessments and give feedback/feedforward. You will also contribute to the bank of in-house teaching and learning materials.  In addition, you will share best practice in weekly course meetings as well as  in-house CPD events.

We are looking for committed EAP professionals with experience in a higher education setting. You will have a proven track record of supporting learners, identifying individual needs and helping develop autonomous approaches to learning. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching and be someone that seeks new challenges. You will be reliable, dynamic and flexible with an ability to manage your own time in order to meet administrative and marking deadlines. Lastly, you will enjoy working in a collaborative environment in which you will be able to contribute to the on-going development of our courses.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on  Grade  5, £28,756- £32,344 and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience. 

Any appointment will be made subject to satisfactory references and probation period.

This role is based in the UK and as such the successful candidate will be required to live and work in the UK.
