The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry at the University of Helsinki invites applications for the position of a Doctoral Researcher to work at the Department of Forest Sciences.

Requirements:
We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled person who would like to pursue a PhD in forest sciences. The successful candidate has an MSc degree in forest sciences, ecology, geography, mathematics, computer science, engineering, statistics, or another suitable field.
The initial contract is for eighteen months starting e.g. on 1 May 2023. The appointee should either already have the right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Helsinki by the start of the appointment or apply for the right and obtain it within the probationary period of six months of their appointment. The salary of the successful candidate will be based on level 2 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The starting salary of the researcher will be ca. 2300 euros per month before taxes. A six-month trial period will be applied.

The Department of Forest Sciences is a unit under the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, which employs circa 100 individuals. The Department conducts research of a high international standard in the forest sciences and provides the highest education based on this research. The focus areas of the Department’s research and teaching are forest ecology and forest resource management as well as forest economics, business and society. The goal of the Department’s multidisciplinary operations is to provide teaching in the sustainability and sustainable use of forests, as well as conduct related scholarly research and public engagement.
