Research Program Unit at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki invites applications for a fixed-term position of

Doctoral Researcher

from 1 January 2024 until 31 December 2027 or according to agreement.

Our research group investigates infant gut microbial ecology using an interdisciplinary approach, combining culture-based microbiology and modern multiomics with bioinformatics and analytical methods from population ecology. The position of doctoral researcher involves wet lab work, participating in organizing studies with human participants, and analysing microbial genomic and metagenomic data.

Qualifications

The candidate should have an MSc degree in microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, ecology or other suitable field and experience in bioinformatics or biostatistics, including experience with R or Python. Experience in basic molecular biology/microbiology methods is seen as an advantage. We are looking for a highly motivated and independent student able to adjust to and learn different types of tasks throughout the project.

The degree requirement must be met by the beginning of the employment. Doctoral Researcher must obtain the right to pursue doctoral studies at the University of Helsinki within the trial period (six months). The chosen applicant is expected to reside in Finland while employed by the University of Helsinki.

Salary is based on the university salary system, approximately 2400 €/month depending on experience and qualifications.
