University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) invites applications for Nottingham Ningbo China Beacons of Excellence Research and Innovation Institute (CBI). This is an exciting opportunity to participate in Beacons of Excellence global research initiative of the University of Nottingham, spearhead research strategy development and join a world class team from the ground up at a new research institution strongly supported by UNNC and the Ningbo government, as well as take advantage of the opportunities in collaborations between industry and academia, and funding agencies in China offered by this great platform.

Your Responsibilities: 

Reporting directly to the Vice Provost of China Beacons Institute (CBI), the incumbent will play a key role in leading a large technical team to enable successful delivery of CBI laboratory set up, daily management and health  safety control. This role will work closely with academics and technical colleagues in the University and the Institute to strategically manage, lead and develop a comprehensive technical operation within CBI. 

The incumbent will be tasked with the following responsibilities: 

Lead CBI Technical Service Team:Provide direction, leadership, support and guidance to CBI technical team across a range of technical disciplines and technical specialists within the service structure through. This will include development of service level KPIs to focus on key areas for service delivery and maintain excellent provision of technical services.Laboratory facilities management:To assume responsibility for facilities management of key assets, including day-to-day responsibility for the infrastructure. To perform a leading supportive role in the project management of infrastructure and technical alterations and developments, working in conjunction within University and CBI functional teams as required.Budget Control and Management for Technical Service Centre:Manage allocated budget/resources effectively for CBI laboratories, ensuring pay and operational finances remains within the allocated budget, assessing and reporting for planning purposes on the future budgetary requirements of the service.Other technical initiatives support:Liaise with CBI functional teams to develop, promote and manage Analytical Testing Centre to support initiatives for additional income generation for CBI.Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be required. 

About You 

You should have PHD degree in engineering/science or equivalent;You should have a proven track record to demonstrate your work accurately in order to provide qualified technical support;You should have extensive knowledge of Health  Safety Regulations and policies, both in construction and laboratory management;You should have proven ability to motivate and manage a team of staff including the management of change;You should have proven record of working successfully with senior management teams within international setting and/or research institute organization.

Nottingham Ningbo China Beacons of Excellence Research and Innovation Institute (CBI) is an exciting new collaboration between the city of Ningbo and UNNC, designed to establish multi-disciplinary, international, first-class research teams in key areas related to the economic development needs of Ningbo. The Institute primarily addresses prominent issues in three areas  Intelligent Manufacturing, Green Chemicals and Energy, Life Sciences and Healthcare, all of which are closely connected with local development goals. Each of the three areas will have a dedicated research centre hosting leading scholars and researchers.
