About the Role

The Director of Strategic Planning and Policy is a senior strategic role-holder reporting directly into the Executive (Pro Vice-Chancellor (Resources). The Strategic Planning and Policy Unit (SPPU) covers all aspects of performance monitoring, data strategy, regulatory data reporting, Higher Education Policy and horizon scanning, Business Intelligence and Management Information infrastructure and reporting, data governance risk management and business continuity.

The Director will lead the ongoing development and implementation of an effective University-wide approach to strategic planning, performance and data management, providing leadership and direction on a broad range of activities and initiatives that support institutional decision-making and ensure the University is best-placed to deliver against its aims and ambitions. 

Through this you will be an instrumental part in the delivery of the University’s ambitions and play a key role in representing the University with external stakeholders, representative bodies and regulators, ensuring that we are responding effectively to the policy environment and pro-actively managing and responding to risk.  

Whilst your skill set is of vital importance, we want to appoint an individual who supports and enhances the vision, culture, an ethos of a university that seeks to place students at the forefront of all we do. 

About You

Committed to collaborative leadership, you will work effectively across the wider University, influencing others to see data as a strategic asset, and supporting the development of a high-performing team. You will have substantial experience and knowledge working in a complex organisation, with a proven track record of strategic management and leadership gained either in higher education or from another relevant sector. You will have demonstrable communication and interpersonal skills to build credibility quickly across our academic and professional structures. You will also have experience of engaging effectively with Regulatory Bodies and Government Agencies.   

You will be strategic thinker, planner, analyst and influencer, with a high degree of integrity and excellent judgement, and you will also have a genuine commitment to the mission and ethos of the University.
