MRC Investigator -Environmental Exposure- MRC Toxicology Unit
The MRC Toxicology Unit is a leading International Research Institute within the School of Biological Sciences, University of Cambridge. The Unit delivers high impact mechanistic toxicology research, pursuing hypothesis-driven toxicological questions with a particular focus on the study of the causal links between exposure to endogenous and exogenous toxicants, molecular initiating events and adverse outcome pathways. The Unit's overall aims are to carry out pioneering research which leads to improved health and to train and mentor the next generation of toxicologists. The research environment provides state-of-the-art research facilities including microscopy, Cryo-EM, flow cytometry, proteomics, bioinformatics and imaging.
We are seeking to recruit an MRC Investigator who is interested in uncovering molecular mechanisms underlying adverse health outcomes that result from environmental exposure. We would be particularly interested in research programmes with a mechanistic approach to adverse effects on the lung/respiratory system in response to air-pollution including particulates, chemicals, and environmental agents and other related areas, such as mechanobiology or chemical biology approaches to toxic exposure. The position comes with a very attractive research funding package, including 3 core-funded postdoctoral posts, PhD studentships and access to a large range of state-of-the-art equipment, including a histopathology facility.
You will develop the scientific strategy for your research programme and contribute to the strategic direction of the Unit. Leading a team of researchers and students you will contribute to the advancement of knowledge in your research subject, maintain a successful programme of funding; collaborate externally and internally to advance thinking and disseminate your research in international papers and at international conferences.
Applicants must have a PhD and an international reputation within their field; they will have led original research in a relevant area and be able to build effective and sustainable international collaborative partnerships. They will have the vision, experience and enthusiasm to build on current strengths within the Unit as well as an established track record in attracting research grant support. Suitable applicants can be considered for a Professorial appointment, concomitant with the post.
This is an open-ended position funded by the Medical Research Council, renewable every 5 years.
