As part of a senior leadership reorganisation within Research and Innovation Services (RIS) at Durham, we are looking to appoint to the Director of Policy, Systems and Performance. A newly created role, this will be one of four Directors leading RIS, and is fundamental to our research policy, performance, systems and strategy. This senior post will be responsible for both the reporting of the University’s performance in exercises such as the Research Excellence Framework and, supporting on a range of strategic projects alongside the Pro-Vice-Chancellor Research. Crucially, this role will lead on policies and processes for all funded research and research related activities across the University and be responsible for the support of the current research information systems at Durham.
Reporting to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor Colin Bain, the Director of Policy, Systems and Performance is a member of the senior management team of RIS and co-chairs the University’s Research Management Committee.
It is essential that the new Director of Systems, Policy and Performance has experience of senior leadership within Higher Education, or an aligned sector, with a track record in research management and support, a substantial and successful track record in leading multidisciplinary teams to support change management, and an excellent in-depth knowledge of the research and policy landscape.
The appointment of the Director of Policy, Systems and Performance will be determined by a Selection Panel. A search exercise is being undertaken by Perrett Laver, who will support the Selection Panel to identify the widest possible field of qualified candidates and assist in their assessment.
