The University of Oxford is leading the world in research and teaching for the benefit of society, both in the UK and globally. We are seeking a new Director of Planning and Council Secretariat. Reporting to the Registrar, the postholder will provide a senior leadership role across a wide and demanding range of activities relating to the governance of the University, the University’s relationship with the regulatory authorities, planning and resource allocation and the Focus Programme (a continuous improvement programme which aims to improve the way in which support services are delivered across the University).

This is one of the key roles in the Registrar’s senior team. The Director will work in partnership with the University’s senior leadership team, academic divisions, professional service functions, and colleges to support, develop, oversee and deliver institutional objectives and targets. The postholder will also service the University’s most senior committees.

You will be an outstanding individual educated to degree level or equivalent, probably – but not necessarily - with experience in planning or governance roles in the HE sector.  You will demonstrate exemplary communication and diplomacy skills, intellectual rigour, political astuteness, and the ability to drive change.

You will have strong verbal as well as numeracy skills, must evidence superb people skills with experience in working at all levels of an organisation/institution to facilitate strategic change and deliver organisational efficiencies. Demonstrable awareness of national policy and a good understanding of financial aspects of higher education are key, as is the ability to lead and motivate a highly capable team.  

The postholder will be based at the University Offices, Wellington Square in central Oxford and will be paid a competitive salary.
