The Director of Digital Learning will lead and manage the production and maintenance of Arden’s expanding academic portfolio, ensuring that all Arden programmes and modules, across all modes of delivery, are informed by high quality design, learning and teaching innovation, innovative assessment, engaging content, and the application of contemporary digital pedagogies, all of which underpin an excellent student experience and outcomes. The Director will lead the digital learning product development team, ensuring on-time delivery of new digital learning products for launch, and a systematic approach to the updating and refreshing of existing products. The Director will champion continuous enhancement, innovative curricula, and the sharing of best practice across the academic community.

Reporting to the Dean of Learning & Teaching/Deputy PVC Academic, this new position will be key role within the Senior Academic Team, requiring effective and extensive cross-School and cross-Department influence and engagement. In particular, the Director will work with Academic Services, Library Services, Quality, IT, Heads of School, and subject matter experts, leading the planning and organisation of Arden’s programme design and production processes across all stakeholders. The role carries budgetary responsibilities, and the Director will effectively plan and manage the institutional budget for programme and module development, design, production, and maintenance.

The Director will work closely with the Head of Academic Professional Development, to ensure that Arden’s academic staff are appropriately knowledgeable about student learning, and skilled in the academic practices required to deliver high quality, digital-first teaching. You will work closely with the Head of School of Digital Education to support Arden’s expanding portfolio of programmes for internal and external audiences and will be expected to contribute to its growing pedagogic research and scholarship group. Directly and indirectly contribute to the delivery of Arden’s Learning and Teaching Plan, Digital Manifesto, Academic Professional Development Plan, and Research Plan. Provide regular updates to Arden’s Learning, Teaching, and Assessment Committee (a sub-Committee of Academic Board), and as required for the Senior Academic Team.

You will have a background in higher education, a proven track record of leading digital learning. Be passionate about providing high quality learning, committed to working collaboratively across a complex organisation to bring about positive change. You will understand educational technologies, digital learning design, content production, and virtual learning environments. An excellent planner and organiser with an eye for detail as well as the ability to step back and appreciate the bigger picture. A problem-solver, and an empathetic team leader, who can react quickly to changes in a fast-paced environment.
