The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Oxford Brookes University teach a broad range of Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes. We are looking for an experienced technician or practitioner who can complement our technical team with a number of media content creation skills. The successful candidate will be expected to support media related modules by delivering technical demonstrations and to support students in the use of media related equipment such as video cameras, audio recorders, podcast creation and video editing, support our Making News module in the TV studio and work alongside academic colleagues and our Digital Media Enhanced Learning Developers in the creation of high-quality Distance Learning content.

As a faculty technician, the role holder will also be involved in maintaining specialist equipment and spaces ensuring the highest standards of Health and Safely practice. The post holder will also work closely with and support the faculty Curriculum Support Technician and Drama Studio technician.

The ideal candidate will have practical experience and interests having worked in audio/video content creation for digital and broadcast media, in either an educational or industry setting. The post may also suit a “self-shooter” with video acquisition and post production skills. Experience and knowledge of the production/co-creation of high-quality distance learning content is desirable but not essential.

As Digital Media Support Technician you will be:

  • Responsible for the preparation and delivery of technical demonstrations, liaising with academic staff.
  • Supporting student projects and independent study where required.
  • Supporting academic colleagues in the technical or technically involved aspects of module delivery.
  • Providing technical support and expertise for faculty Research Initiatives, Consultancy Contracts, Short Courses and Public Outreach Events.
  • Operating media equipment in our green screen newsroom, such as video cameras, vision mixers, editing software, lighting equipment and audio recorders.
  • Maintaining technical kit and associated specialist studios/workshops in safe and good working order demonstrating the highest standard of H&S compliance and good practice.
  • Working alongside academic staff and our Digital Media Enhanced Learning Developers in the production and creation of high-quality Distance Learning visual content.
  • Assisting the Facilities and Services Manager as and when required, for example, coordinating staff room moves, providing H&S inductions, liaising with IT Services, Estates and Campus Services (ECS) and other internal and external service providers.
  • Providing backup and collegial support as part of a small technician team in the faculty.

You will have:

  • A degree/HND/or equivalent in a media related discipline, or substantial industry experience in media production/Education experience supporting media production disciplines.
  • The ability to use a range of professional video cameras and equipment, lighting technique skills and sound acquisition skills.
  • An excellent knowledge of Video Editing and competent in sound mixing.
  • Broadcast/Studio experience - Vision Mixing, basic GFX, Studio Lighting, Greenscreen.
  • Production experience - evidence of content creation, interviews and shooting schedules.
  • The ability to prepare and deliver technical demonstrations either by presentation or hands on instruction.
  • Excellent written English and spoken communication skills.
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • The ability to organise and prioritise workload in a context of competing demands and working to deadlines.
  • An ability to work independently and collaboratively within the team.
