Digital Services are responsible for the digital information, systems and technologies used by staff and students across The Open University.  Covering all aspects of digital technology at the OU, from sourcing and maintaining systems, through to providing frontline IT support for staff and students.

The role

The effective use of data is key to the successful delivery of the Open University Strategic goals. Reporting to the Digital Integration Hub Senior Data Architect as part of the Chief Data Office this is a key role to build and run the Data Technology Capability for the Open University. The successful candidate will be an expert in creating and managing cloud infrastructure with relevant experience with DevOps tooling in Azure, scripting languages, technology operations, architecture, integration patterns and how to implement these successfully. 

As a DevOps Engineer, you will provide technical leadership to colleagues through coaching and mentorship whilst carrying out maintenance and continuous improvement of the platform infrastructure (Azure App gateway).

Although this role is aligned to our Milton Keynes office, we are flexible on location across the UK, with the understanding of occasional ad-hoc attendance onsite.

Skills and experience

  • Do you possess an Undergraduate degree, or equivalent experience, with strong engineering, mathematics or computing elements?
  • Do you have extensive experience of working in modern open technology stacks?
  • Are you experienced in Infrastructure as code, familiar with Bicep, Terraform, ARM templates?
  • Do you have good trouble-shooting skills with the perseverance to solve problems?
