Office of the Vice-Chancellor & Senior Executive
The University of Exeter is one of the world’s best and is a member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities. The University of Exeter is a member of the prestigious Russell Group of top UK research universities, having ranked in the top 150 universities in the world and the top 15 UK universities in prestigious global and national league tables.
The University has a proud history and has grown from its roots in the South-West of England to be a truly inclusive and diverse global university with a community of around 30,000 students from over 150 countries and 6,400 staff across four campuses in Devon and Cornwall, as well as alumni, academics and global university partners that bring the world to Exeter and take Exeter to the world.
Launched in October 2021, our new Strategy 2030 aims to use our outstanding education, research and global connections to create a sustainable, healthy and socially just future. In order to help achieve this vision as a globally networked university, the University is now seeking to appoint a new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement).
As a key member of the University Executive Board, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor works with senior leaders across the University to position Exeter as a global 100 leader. They are responsible for networking and extending our global presence, as well as identifying new opportunities for Exeter for global partnerships and transnational education.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement) also leads international and domestic student recruitment and admissions, reviewing market trends and identifying and championing new markets and educational programmes. Working with our global alumni community, they will ensure we benefit from their expertise, networks and insights to support the delivery of our strategic vision. They will lead a refresh of our Global Strategy launched in 2019 to build on the progress made over the last four years and ensure alignment with the University’s new Strategy 2030.
We are seeking an individual with an established national and international reputation for global engagement initiatives and significant university leadership and management experience within a comparable institution. Able to inspire, lead and motivate, they will have excellent interpersonal skills in order to act as an ambassador for and representative of the Vice-Chancellor and the University to external stakeholders and partners.
The University of Exeter is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and through this appointment process it is the University’s clear stated aim to develop candidate pools that include applicants from all backgrounds and communities. The University particularly welcomes applications from women, people from black and minority ethnic communities, the LGBT+ community and from disabled people.
