The University of Exeter is one of the world’s leading universities. A member of the Russell Group of top UK research-intensive universities, it has been placed 137th in the world according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and ranks in the top 15, in prestigious national league tables. We have around 30,000 students, from more than 150 countries, and 6,400 staff working across four campuses in Devon and Cornwall, along with alumni, academics and global partners that bring the world to Exeter and take Exeter to the world.

In October 2021, we launched our ambitious Strategy 2030, which aims to use our outstanding education, research and global connections to create a sustainable, healthy and socially just future. In order to support Strategy 2030, we restructured from six colleges into three larger strategic faculties in 2022, championing interdisciplinarity and supporting more empowered and better-connected departments, schools and institutes. One of these three Faculties is the innovative Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy which combines engineering and physical and environmental sciences with the globally recognised, triple accredited University of Exeter Business School. N Named Business School of the Year in 2022 by Times Higher Education, the Business School is ranked 7th in the UK in the Complete University Guide 2023.

Following the successful tenure of Professor Alexandra Gerbasi, recently appointed as Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean for the Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy at Exeter, we now seek to appoint a new Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Business School. The Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean is responsible for providing strategic and academic leadership, vision and direction to the Business School, further driving our ambitious growth trajectory and building on Exeter's reputation as an interdisciplinary centre for excellence for Business and STEM.

The Business School is defined by its commitment to providing leadership for a better world by giving our students a world-leading education centred around sustainable and responsible business approaches. As a member of the Faculty’s Executive Board, the Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean will work collaboratively across the Faculty to deliver its strategic objectives and underpin the wider University’s ambitions.

The next Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean will combine a proven track record of outstanding academic leadership and management with an excellent reputation in research and teaching in a field complementary to the current Business School and its priorities. A forward-thinking leader with an inclusive, interdisciplinary and collaborative approach, you will build positive relationships internally and externally to help drive the Business School forward.

The University of Exeter is committed to creating an inclusive culture where all members of the community are supported to thrive; where diverse voices are heard through engagement with evidence-based charter frameworks for gender (Athena SWAN), race equality (Race Equality Charter Mark), LGBTQ+ inclusion (Stonewall Diversity Champion) and as a Disability Confident employer. Whilst all applicants will be judged on merit alone, applications from groups currently underrepresented within the working community are particularly welcomed.

For informal inquiries please contact Xavier Thomason at the following email address: [email protected]  or +44 (0)20 3928 7387.

The deadline for applications is 23:59 BST on Monday 4th March 2024.
