Edinburgh Napier Business School is seeking to appoint a highly ambitious and motivated Deputy Dean (Professor) who can provide leadership to our current academic faculty, through six professorial Heads of Subject, supporting the Dean to deliver our ambitious plans for investment and sustainable growth in faculty and academic reputation.

The role

You will have line management responsibility for six Heads of Subject (Departments) within the Business School. As an experienced academic leader, you will work with other members of the School Leadership Team to motivate colleagues and students to reach their full potential and be the best version of themselves. You will support their development as researchers and educators, developing an environment in which they can make a difference.

A well-established and successful academic, you will continue to undertake a substantive programme of research, knowledge exchange or pedagogical activity in a discipline complementary to our current portfolio. You will be an innovative researcher and educator, with a strong and current record of research funding and international quality publications.

As an integral part of the School Leadership Team, you will contribute to the ongoing development and efficient operation of the school, meeting our targets for research, teaching excellence and knowledge exchange while delivering an outstanding student experience.

Applicants must demonstrate:

Education/qualifications

  • Doctoral level qualification in relevant discipline.
  • Relevant Professional qualifications or memberships.
  • Meets Professional criteria in line with our Academic Leadership Framework in any pathway.

Experience/skills

  • Senior academic and leading authority with an international reputation
  • Proven leadership and management skills
  • Significant experience in leading and managing a large team towards the delivery of successful outcomes
  • In-depth knowledge of specialism to enable the development of new knowledge, innovation and understanding in the field
  • Strong track record of innovative research and producing international quality publications
  • Proven track record of innovation and excellence in scholarship and education development
  • Understanding of institutional management systems and the wider higher education environment
  • Experience of setting and achieving targets and metrics
  • Experience of supervising at least one doctoral student to successful completion
  • Experience of attracting world-class Academics to join research group or subject area
  • Experience of designing and leading on educational projects regionally or nationally
  • Evidence of an active and supportive approach to inter-disciplinary, high-quality teaching and research programmes.

Benefits we offer

Salary: £72,563 - £106,482 per annum (Grade 9 or 10) + Pension (Employer contribution of 23%).
