Departmental Lectureship in Quantitative Development Economics

The Oxford Department of International Development is seeking to employ a Departmental Lecturer in Quantitative Development Economics. The principal tasks of the Departmental Lecturer in Development Economics will be to contribute to the teaching of Quantitative Methods (QM) on the MSc Economics for Development course and to provide small-group and dissertation supervision in development economics.  The QM course is a two-term graduate level course in applied econometrics with a heavy emphasis on hands-on application of methods to data and problems in development economics.  The Lecturer may contribute to other components of the MSc course consistent with their areas of research expertise and will be expected to conduct independent research in the field of development economics.

The successful candidate will have a doctorate in economics with a focus on development issues and a strong quantitative component, or evidence that a doctorate is imminently expected. They will have proven ability and experience necessary to teach quantitative methods to high-achieving and challenging graduate students, and to carry out student assessment, examination and course design. They will also have an active research record and familiarity with the existing literature and research in the field of development economics.

The successful applicant will be expected to start on 1 September 2024 for an initial period of 36 months.
