Applications are invited for a two-year fixed term Departmental Lectureship in History of Science, tenable from 1 October 2021. The purpose of this part time (0.5FTE) post is to cover the History Faculty’s teaching needs while Professor Howard Hotson serves as Director for Digital Scholarship @ Oxford (DISC) from 1 October 2021 until 30 September 2023.
You will have research and teaching interests in the history of early modern science, broadly defined. At the undergraduate level you will be responsible for teaching classes and tutorials for Special Subject 14, ‘The Scientific Movement of the Seventeenth Century; providing lectures, classes and tutorials for Optional Subject 7, ‘Nature and Art in the Renaissance’; and providing lectures, classes and tutorials for the European and World History Theme Paper ‘Global Networks of Innovation, 1000-1700’. You will be asked to convene the Optional Subject paper in the second year. At postgraduate level you will contribute four classes to the Advanced Paper on ‘The Scientific Revolution’ which forms part of the MSc/MPhil in History of Science, Medicine and Technology.

The appointee will be assigned a mentor, who will be a senior member of the History Faculty. In addition, the History Faculty provides support for early career and other researchers, including assistance in the preparation and submission of grant and fellowship applications through the Faculty Research Director and Research Development Officer.
The appointee will be required to have a completed doctorate in a relevant field, or evidence that a doctorate is close to completion.
The post is fixed term for two years in the first instance.
