Departmental Lecturer in English Language

The Faculty of English, in association with Pembroke College, is seeking to appoint a Departmental Lecturer in English Language. This is a one-year fixed-term teaching and research appointment, and it is anticipated that the appointee will take up their post on 1 September 2024.

The postholder will be expected to provide 4 hours of undergraduate tutorial teaching per week for the College, and 36 hours of Faculty lectures or classes on topics related to English language, including contributing to the core lecture series for the language section of Prelims Paper 1 (Introduction to English Language) and teaching the later half of the History of the English Language paper (1400-1800). The postholder will also undertake dissertation supervision, examining, and the normal duties of a college tutor.

The successful candidate must possess or be near to completing a doctorate in English Language or a related field and must have experience of undergraduate teaching and possess excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. They should also have a research and publication record, appropriate to their career stage, in English Language post-1400.

Candidates shortlisted for interview will be asked to submit a sample of written work in advance of the interviews, and will be requested to give a short presentation as part of the assessment process. Two references will be requested for shortlisted candidates.
