Updated: 3 months ago
Location: Oxford, ENGLAND
Deadline: 26 Jan 2024

Applications are invited for the position of Departmental Lecturer in Comparative Political Economy in the Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Oxford. This is an opportunity to join a leading department recognised internationally for its rigorous and valuable research.

As Departmental Lecturer in Comparative Political Economy in association with Magdalen College, you will contribute to the subject through teaching and examining students at undergraduate and graduate levels. As well as providing teaching for the department’s Comparative Political Economy provision, the Departmental Lecturer will be expected to supervise MPhil students and contribute to doctoral research seminars and research design workshops. You will participate in Departmental administration and contribute to the examining and admissions processes. You will also be expected to undertake independent research in your field of specialism.

In the third, fourth and fifth years of the post, the successful candidate will be expected to provide tutorials in comparative government and/or political sociology for undergraduates at Magdalen College and to assist in undergraduate admissions, the organisation of teaching, and student welfare at the College.  It is expected that the College duties will take approximately 0.3 of the DL’s time, for which a 0.3 reduction of duties on the Departmental side will therefore be made.

You will hold a PhD/DPhil or be close to completion (submitted and awaiting examination) in Politics, Comparative Political Economy or a closely related field. You will have experience in, or ability to provide excellent class and tutorial teaching to high-achieving students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and to advise MPhil students on their research projects. You will have carried out independent research in Politics, Comparative Political Economy or a closely related field, evidenced by a strong publication record in highly ranked, peer-reviewed academic journals and/or major presses, as well as having a clear plan of research to be conducted. Additionally, you will have a willingness to contribute to the pastoral care of students and have the sensitivity to deal with pastoral issues, whilst engaging in student assessment, examination, and course design.

The position is a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2029, starting on 01 September 2024 (although a start date as early as 1 April 2024 could be negotiated).

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application and the details of two references. If you do not wish the University to contact your referees before being progressed to the shortlist stage, please answer the relevant reference questions accordingly.

Only applications received before midday (UK time) on Friday 26 January 2024 can be considered. Please quote reference 169208 in all correspondence.

Interviews are likely to be held early to mid-February 2024.
