Education and Academic Services

INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY

The University is now recruiting permanent Department Manager posts for all Departments as part of the formation of our academic faculties.  This exciting new opportunity has emerged from our Future Structures Programme ensuring we have embedded PS support working directly with our Heads of Departments, the Department Leadership Teams and the Departments.

The Department Managers will work closely with the Head of Department and be the PS leads for the Departments, coordinating Faculty and University PS in support of the Department’s priorities in research, education and external engagement.   They will work closely with each other within Faculties and be part of a wider University Department Manager network.

Attendance on the Department Manager training is essential to support the establishment of this new PS role and to help develop ways of working with all PS Divisions that are sustainable and deliver the optimum PS support to Faculties.

Most of the Department Manager posts are 1.0 FTE but there are also some part-time (0.5 FTE) posts available, and of course we welcome applications from candidates considering flexible working arrangements and job shares.  As part of the application process you are asked to state any preferences you have for working with particular Faculties, Departments and on which campus.  There is, however, no guarantee that successful candidates will be placed with their preferred Department but every effort will be made to match suitable skills, experience and aspirations with those of the Department requirements and the senior academic leadership to attain the optimum Department Leadership Teams.

The interviews will be conducted in Faculty or Cornwall groupings and the panel will comprise the relevant Director of Faculty Operations (DFO) or the Deputy Director of Faculty Operations (DDFO) or the Director of Cornwall Operations (DCO), Heads of Departments or Department Academic; a permanent panel member (Roo Haywood Smith) and an HR Advisor.  We welcome applicants without Faculty or Department preferences, where this is the case you will be invited to join a Faculty interview panel that fits best with your skills and experience.

Interviews are planned to run from Tuesday 12 to Tuesday 19 July inclusive for the Exeter Department Mangers, you are asked to let us know if you are on leave during this time.   Interviews for Cornwall Department Managers will take place slightly later due to Graduation and HoD international travel; they will be held week beginning 25 July.

Please note, the complexity of the panels and the necessarily tight timeline means that requests for interviews on specific days are unlikely to be possible. All interview panels will take place via Teams to allow maximum flexibility of dates for all attendees and we will send out interview topics to shortlisted candidates in advance.

Please note that the application process will ask for a CV and there will be a short application form with the request to answer 3 skills-based questions instead of a supporting statement to ensure a fair and inclusive shortlisting process.
