Role Description

The responsibilities of this role are split between the Shrivenham and Cranfield sites.  This post can be based at either, with travel to the other site as required.

About the Role

You will support the Directors of Theme for both Defence & Security in designing and delivering a range of business development activities and delivery projects in support of customers across the Defence and Security sectors. These include government, industry and academic organisations across the UK and its international allies. 

Working alongside the PA, you will help design and manage the Theme operating model and stakeholder management system.  You will be responsible for monitoring the overall portfolio of business development activities and delivery projects, including activity across other Schools in the University and reporting regularly into the CDS Executive and wider University management information systems. Working alongside the Symposia team you will liaise closely with the Heads of Centre within CDS and other Schools to plan and prioritise projects and events and identify the resources necessary to deliver them. You will also have personal responsibility for managing range of current and emerging projects including:

  • Completion of the new Cranfield List X facility that will support classified working across the University. Once operational, the post holder will provide ongoing operational management for this facility.
  • Refresh of the government’s Academic RiSC initiative, a network of universities designed to promote academic engagement in solving challenges in national security and resilience.
  • A Co-creation initiative with a Gov stakeholder community
  • Next Generation of Technical Training for the MOD

About You

You will be educated to degree level, or have equivalent experience, with a Programme Management qualification (e.g. MSP).  Knowledge of Government security processes is essential. 

You will have experience of one or more of the following:

  • UK Defence and/or Security sectors
  • Project and programme management

You will have the ability to establish strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and influence at all levels, using tact and diplomacy.  The ability to work independently and self-motivate to find innovate and practical solutions to complex problems is essential.
