The Dean of the Faculty of the Sciences will play an instrumental role in realising our exciting vision. The role of Dean at York is changing. In 2021 we decentralised financial planning so it is now anchored in a Faculty-level process. We are also carrying out an organisational change programme, including the reorganisation of our professional services to support a more strategic capability at Faculty level. As Dean, you will manage opportunities and risks across academic departments and to drive on their Faculty’s contribution to delivering on our strategic ambitions.

Key requirements

  • Evidence of significant senior leadership experience
  • Strong academic track record as evidenced by previous achievements
  • Experience in academic portfolio review, management planning and budget setting
  • Confident line manager with the ability to motivate staff and effectively manage performance
  • Evidence of leading policy developments and turning plans into action
  • Strategic insight as demonstrated by engagement in cross-institutional leadership
  • A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion for students and staff with demonstrable experience progressing this agenda
